How Phillip Schofield spends a sea day

Princess UK ambassador Phillip inspires us with all the ways to fill a sea day during your cruise

Updated December 2020

The beauty of a day at sea during a cruise holiday is that it offers ample opportunity to rest and relax but also gives you a chance to experience all of the activities, entertainment and dining options onboard. With so many amazing things to do, choosing exactly how to spend your time becomes the tricky part. So we asked Princess Cruises UK brand ambassador Phillip Schofield how he spends a sea day. Cue inspiration...

8am: Start the day slowly

“The beds onboard are a dream – the duvets are like clouds and I always sleep incredibly well. I can be a bit lazy in the morning on holiday; I love waking up and taking my time. I open the curtains, let the sea breeze in… that, for me, is the ultimate luxury.”

9:30am: Enjoy breakfast on the balcony

“There’s nothing like eating breakfast as the world passes by. I love the soft movements of the ship, the hum of the engines. I try to be healthy but at least once on holiday I’ll push the boat out – so to speak – and have the full English.”

11am: Get out and explore

“After breakfast, it’s nice to get outside for a jog on the running track. I love exploring the ship’s decks during a sea day – I find all the restaurants and bars and make note of the perfect sun-lounger spot. There’s so much to do on the ship, it’s impossible to get bored.”

1pm: Grab a book

“There’s nothing better than sitting with a good book and the stateroom balconies are incredibly peaceful. I take my book out on deck to a sun lounger, too. You can order a drink via OceanNow on the MedallionClass app and have it brought right to you, as staff know where to find you thanks to your Medallion pendant.”

3pm: Relax in The Sanctuary

“I love a full-body massage and really enjoy spending time in The Sanctuary – where else can you relax in a spa, see the sea and watch the world pass by? The spa team make you feel so relaxed. It’s a very serene place.”

4:30pm: Get a bit of culture

Regal Princess art gallery

“The afternoons are made for watching a film at the Movies Under The Stars screen. They’re also a chance to go to the art gallery. They have so many great pieces there.”

7pm: Head out for the evening

"On a sea day it’s lovely to have more time to get dressed for dinner. I like to watch the sun go down before the evening meal. The food and wine onboard is phenomenal. You can sample some of the most incredible Italian wines without the mark-up you would find on shore and they all accompany a meal beautifully.”

8:30pm: Dinner is served

Chefs Table Lumiere

“I was lucky enough to do the Chef’s Table Lumière experience. Seeing the kitchen prepare dinner for thousands of people was fascinating. You sample dishes, tour the kitchen and eat at the Chef’s Table which is surrounded by a glass curtain. It’s very theatrical.”
