September 2024

By Ashleigh Arnott

Get a taste of your next destination as you tuck into the most important meal of the day when you book a balcony cabin – you’ll have your own personal outdoor space to relax in, plus the best views as you sail into each port.

If you’re a fan of a luxurious morning meal, you can even book a Deluxe Balcony Breakfast, which includes a half bottle of chilled sparkling wine and a four-course breakfast at $50 for two to share. Line it up for the morning you reach one of these gorgeous destinations and it’s sure to get you off to a very special start…

Valletta, Malta

Probably the world’s most elegant fortified city, Valletta is a jumble of limestone baroque buildings and neat, sheer battlements that look as impressive from the port as they do from the city itself. Relax on your balcony as you admire the city’s amber-coloured skyline, which includes domed church The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as well as St. John’s Co-Cathedral, a 16th-century building that’s home to stunning works by Italian master painter Caravaggio. Be sure to visit when on land, perhaps as part of a Princess guided tour.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Of St. Kitts’ 22 named mountains, Mount Liamuiga stands tallest. Hugely popular with hikers, the stratovolcano is covered in rich green rainforest that spreads down to meet the vibrant buildings of Basseterre, St. Kitts’ capital. From your balcony, you’ll be able to see this verdant peak as well as the colourful waterfront of Basseterre Bay and the lapping turquoise ocean that surrounds this beautiful Caribbean island. Once on land, you can explore St. Kitts’ rainforest on a guided hike with Princess.

The port of Juneau, Alaska

Juneau, Alaska

The often-snow-capped Mount Juneau towers over Alaska’s capital and offers a very handsome backdrop as you glide past pine-covered Douglas Island and into the city’s port. From the comfort of your private balcony, admire the quaint mountainside houses and drink in the crisp, clean Alaska air – along with your morning cappuccino – ahead of exploring Juneau itself on a foodie walking tour, or venturing to the nearby Mendenhall Glacier for a canoeing adventure.

Kotor, Montenegro

Enjoy unforgettable, panoramic vistas as you sail into Kotor, a historic port on the coast of Montenegro. Thanks to the Bay of Kotor’s winding entrance and mountainous terrain, you’ll be treated to vast, hilly, forest views long before the anchor drops in front of the UNESCO-listed town. We recommend getting up well in advance of your port arrival time to make the most of this magical scenery.

Singapore

For sheer urban majesty, you can’t beat the view of Singapore’s monumental skyscrapers. The Southeast Asian country is a melting pot of cultures and religions, which has resulted in a unique, thronging metropolis that looks breath-taking from a distance and buzzes with personality up close. Before exploring all the island has to offer – from vast botanical gardens to traditional temples – tuck into a delicious breakfast on your balcony while taking in views of the Central Business District and the iconic five-star hotel Marina Bay Sands in the distance.

Panama Canal, Panama

OK, we admit that the Panama Canal isn't a port, but passing through the epic waterway that separates the Atlantic and Pacific oceans is an experience worth savouring. On an eight-hour full transit, you can learn about the canal’s complex system of locks from the expert guides who’ll join you onboard, but don't miss the opportunity to admire some of the world’s largest floating cranes or the gorgeous scenery of Gatun Lake over pancakes and pastries on your balcony.
