‘I must admit, it is hard to tear yourself away from the ship, what with its exceptional food and wine, alluring pool on the deck and other onboard activities. But when you do, wow, there is some serious excitement to be had onshore. Here are just a few of the exciting shore excursions I've ventured on during my cruises with Princess.'

Going off-road on Mount Etna

‘You dock into Messina in Sicily in the morning, and the next thing you know, you’re off-road on Mount Etna! There’s something very exciting and exhilarating about driving around a live volcano. Along with seeing stunning scenery, you also get to splash through water. What could be better? It’s amazing that you can experience visiting an active volcano when on a cruise holiday.’

Driving a vintage car in Rome

‘It feels like a lifetime ago now, but exploring Rome in a vintage 1960s Fiat Cinquecento was one of the most fun holiday experiences I’ve had. I felt like I was on a proper adventure, whizzing around the city and soaking up some of the world’s most famous landmarks and incredible sights. I’m an adrenalin junkie, so this was a great way for me to discover Rome.’

Den Gamle By open-air museum visit

‘I wasn’t familiar with the city of Aarhus in Denmark before I visited, so I loved my trip to Den Gamle By open-air museum, where a traditional Danish village has been recreated using historical houses from across the country. The staff dress in period costumes and re-enact traditional ways of life, which really draws you into the city’s past. The historical buildings are really beautiful. I couldn’t put my camera down!’
